Requirements:

  • Graduation with an appropriate qualifications in science, physics, engineering, geography (alternatively experience in OSR technical aspects)
  • 3 years of relevant experience - inspection/maintenance activities in the specific area of competence;
  • Knows and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of particular field of specialization;
  • Technical or research background includes computer applications work
  • Experience working with technical applications
  • Experience with geographic information system (GIS) software applications
  • Experience with use of electronics and digital equipment
  • Experience with computerized Geographic Information Systems applications and modeling software, drawing systems, thematic mapping
  • Some experience with training would be an asset
  • Knowledge of computer modeling applications, physics, mathematics
  • Computer literate with software programs: GIS, CAD, Microsoft Word, Access, Excel
  • Competence in the preparation of technical documentation to a high standard
  • Good Communication and Presentation skills.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Proficiency with Russian or Kazakh is essential
  • Good written & spoken English.

Responsibilities:

  • Real time situation modeling of incidents in event of an emergency
  • Development and enhancement of computerized oil spill slick forecasting software
  • Using company Geographic Information System software and procedures to develop GIS capabilities that address oil spill response needs for sensitivity mapping, vessel tracking, operational mapping, slick modeling, air dispersion modeling etc
  • Ensure worst case scenario model data is kept current
  • Development of air sampling and safety procedures for monitoring H2S and other gas levels resulting from oil & chemical spills and during handling of spilled products (during initial containment, recovery, temporary storage, transfers & disposal).
  • Undertake Aerial surveillance activities in the event of an incident and report information to ERC
  • Develop oil spill tracking capability using electronic buoys with presentation of results in GIS map format
  • Develop aerial surveillance capability for mapping of oil slicks, wildlife species at risk, human use activities
  • Coordinate development of communications and computer support capabilities for oil spill response applications using technical services support from the Information Technology and Telecommunications (ITT) department
  • Work with Logistics department to ensure that OSR, requirements are considered in the development of a vessel tracking systems
  • Participate in the Oil Spill Management Team as directed (initially in the Planning and Technical Services Group)
  • Prepare and deliver computer graphics products and presentations during emergency events (maps, images etc)
  • Prepare and deliver training modules in technical areas as required
  • Compliance with safety requirements for air monitoring
  • Participate In risk assessments and job hazard analysis as required
  • Assist in the development of web based mapping and Common Operating Platform
  • Undertake other research projects and capability development projects as assigned
